York Chinese Church E-mail
The York Chinese Church is developping and, after some discussion, has now become a church in its own right rather than one of St Michael's congregations.  Roger Simpson has written more here to explain the future direction of the church. Four years ago a group of us got together to pray about the needs of the increasing numbers of mainland Chinese who were coming to York.  Out of that original group a vision was born to start a Chinese bilingual service (in Mandarin and in English)  serving Chinese people in the city. That service grew over the years and it now has several cell groups and we also baptised quite a few new believers.  Earlier on this year Jackie Pullinger-To and a team came from Hong Kong for their weekend away.  Eventually we moved the service from St. Mike's into its current home in St. Helen's church (opposite Bettys).  The original leaders of the fellowship, Lloyd and Gabbie Belcher, have now moved to Reading, and the leadership team have expressed a desire to become part of the Chinese church's network.  Their vision is to, in time, employ a full time Chinese pastor.  In the light of this we have decided to let the Chinese congregation develop their own identity under the Chinese ministry and to be financially self-supporting.  We imagine that they will continue to use St. Helen's for the time being and we wish them well for the future as they continue to reach out with the gospel.  And can we pray that they will develop strong links both within and outside the Chinese community, and that they will be able to continue to work with the wider church in the York area.

Roger
