New This Week! VENUE CHANGES FOR WEDNESDAY 17 MARCH : The lunchtime service at 12.30 pm is back home in St Michael's, followed by lunch in the Belfrey Hall. Conversations will not be meeting at Vodka Revolutions; instead we will meet at 7.30 pm in The Belfrey Hall. Normal service will resume at Vodka Revolutions from 24 March.
New This Week! CHURCH ELECTORAL ROLL As you know, we have been asking you all to join the electoral roll recently. The electoral roll is the official membership list for St Michael's. We are required by law to revise this roll each year. This means that we need to add new members to the roll and take off those who are no longer regular worshippers at St Michael's. To vote at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting on 22 April your name must be on the roll. You must also be on the roll if you wish to be nominated for a vacancy on the PCC, or if you wish to nominate or second a nomination. The present Electoral Roll is on display in the entrance of the church. If you are already on the roll and wish to stay on, you need take no action. If you are not yet on the roll and would like to be, please complete an orange form which you will find in the entrance way of the church and reurn it to Mark Rance at the Parish Centre or via the pigeon hole in the narthex, by Sunday 28 March. The roll will be revised during the week starting Monday 29 March.
New This Week! CENTRAL PRAYER MEETING Thursday 18 March 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm in St Michael's. Please come along and pray with us for the church, the city and the world. Come as a cell or come by yourself.
New This Week! VIDEO NEWS You may have seen some of the recent blockbusting video creations from Belfrey Studios . . . or perhaps not . . . but we want to make more and better use of video as a way of communicating what we do, who we are and what we're about as a church. If you are into video poroduction, either just shooting a few home movies or more advanced and adventurous stuff and you'd like to help out, we'd love to hear from you. E-mail :

AL RYCROFT WRITES "I realise there has been a little confusion since I appeared on the St Barnabas video a few weeks ago as to what my role will be at St Barnabas. Rest assured! (or subdue your glee....) My commitment at St Barnabas will be for Sunday mornings, and my responsibilities at St Mike's (for example, with the 7pm congregation and the student work) will remain unchanged. Being connected at St Barnabas, however, will be a good opportunity for me to experience a more 'normal' parish during my curacy, with the funerals, baptisms etc that it entails. I hope that clarifies things!"
PAM KENNEDY As you may know, Pam has recently had an operation for
breast cancer and now has to undergo a course of radio and chemo
therapy. This starts in the middle of March with a course of
radiotherapy every day (Monday to Friday) in Leeds at St James
Hospital. Pam and Leo need a lift to Leeds for each of these
treatments and we would like to put a rota together. Can you help with
even one of the trips? Exact dates and times are still not known but
if you would like to help please get in touch with Mark Rance at the
Parish Centre (01904 624190,

are willing to help in readiness for when we have exact dates. Thanks.

STAFF CHANGES There will be
quite a few changes to the staff team at St Mike's over the next few
weeks. This is just to keep you all up to date: Roger Simpson and Matthew Porter:
The
plan is for Matthew Porter to become Vicar and Roger Simpson to
become Associate Minister with a special brief for evangelism. The
process involved in making this happen is quite long but it is
happening
and we hope that the changes will happen by the end of April/beginning
of May. Dave Magill stopped working as
Youth Co-ordinator on Friday 5 March and became full time leader
of Conversations from Monday 8 March. James Simister became the senior leader of youth and children's work at St Michael's from
Monday 8 March. His title is to be decided on soon. 2 part time paid
youth and children's workers will be recruited over the summer to start
in August to work alongside James. Dan Baldwin has secured
a full time post at St Stephen's and St Aiden's Church in Acomb and will
stop working with us (both as Youth Parish Assistant and as our
cleaner) on Friday 19 March. We are in the process of recruiting for a
new cleaner. Jeni Farnhill is retiring from
her post as our Visitor Co-ordinator at the end of March. In the short
term her work will be covered by a holding committee consisting of
Philip Smith, John Mills and Mark Rance who will sort out rotas etc for
the church opening over the summer. We hope to recruit a parish
assistant to be responsible for this area of work from the Autumn. Parish Assistants: we will be starting the recruitment of the Parish Assistant team to
start in September 2010 and will be in touch again with more detailed
plans about this.
EVENTS IN ST MIKE'S Are you a bit fed up with having several ‘vital' church
events to attend in the same week? Are
you struggling to know which are the really important events? Are you left reeling by the number of
notices in services? We are aware that as the church grows and ministries
develop it can be very difficult to know how to make best use of our time. Therefore, we are going to make an attempt at
prioritising events and the ways in which they are advertised. To this end if you are planning any St
Michael's related event in the future which you think you would like to
advertise in some way please please please take these steps:
1) check the church diary at www.stmichaelsyork.org/diary to
see if there are other events on at the same time or round about the event you
are planning
2) Email details of
your planned event to
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
- we will then get in touch with you and let you know how the event might fit
in with the rest of our activities and therefore be a much more successful event
and we will make some suggestions as to how and where your event might be
advertised.
We don't want to restrict events (although we might have to
suggest alternatives dates or ways of doing your event) - we want to make the
events we do run as a church better and our church diary less cluttered - so we
would really appreciate your help with this.
MISSION OPPORTUNITY in Chiang Mai Thailand Autumn 2010. Susie will be co-ordinating a 4 week orientation Course for new workers in late September/early October (dates still to be finalised), She is looking for 2 or 3 responsible adults to look after 6 children aged between 1 and 8 years old. They would care for the children 9am to 3pm weekdays while their parents study nearby in the same building. They would also accompany the families on orientation trips to Bangkok and Chaing Rai Province. They would need to raise apx £700 for their return flights, while accommodation costs in Thailand will be covered. This is a great opportunity to see a fascinating country, while offering practical service to support mission. Could this be you? To find out more , please contact Wendy Taylor on 01904 477628 or via

FINANCE NEWS THANK YOU to all those who gave to the Haiti offering in January. We managed to raise £2,923 which has now been sent to the DEC to help with the relief work there.
Thank you to all those who have returned pledge forms following Pledge Sunday. Praise God that we have managed to raise an additional £28,890 in new and increased regular giving We are, though, still short of our target of £80,000 extra giving. Please pray that we will be able to fill this gap and that the Parochial Church Council will be able to make the right decisions about how to deal with this. Also if you are new to St Michael's, or if you have been here a while and have yet to start giving regularly through the bank then please fill out a standing order form and a Gift Aid declaration which can be found in the narthex , or on our website here . Alternatively you can contact Paul Millardat the Parish Centre (01904 62419) who can help you with this.
Food & Clothing Collection
We're asking everyone who attends services in St Michael's to bring donations of non-perishable food so that we can continuously support homelessness projects in the city, specifically the Peaseholme Centre, which has recently relocated. We're also happy to accept donations of good quality, warm clothing. Please place donations at the bottom of the right-hand stairs to the balcony. A shiny new "Collecting Bin" will appear very soon!
PRAYER Prayers are now available round the clock on the church website. To find out more information on the website Click what we do: prayer and ministry: prayer room.
Prayer Group A group of us have been praying before the 7.00p.m. Service in the
balcony from 6.00 - 6.50p.m. It is a really special time but it would
be really good if a few more people could join the rota. If you think
that this might be you, please contact Frances Harding at

Please pray for Rachel Widdowson, Blair and Philippa Robinson's daughter, who is in an advanced state of progressive Multiple Sclerosis. Please pray also for her husband, Dan, who is a tower of strength to her, but needs support himself as she becomes more and more disabled.
Please pray for Mags Hazeldine who has advanced and widespread cancer and is receiving palliative care in Scarborough although she actually lives in Filey. She worships at Filey Methodist Church.
Please pray for Harry Lydiate who has a major operation coming up shortly. Pray for peace for Harry and Pam at this time and for a full recovery for Harry.
UP AND COMING SUNDAY 28 MARCH There will be a choice of cakes with refreshments in the Belfrey Hall after the 9.00am service. If you wish to donate a gift for your cake, Joel and his villagers in Burkino Faso will be very grateful, as many of them are running short of food after heavy rains washed away much of their crops last November. Thank you in advance for helping. Judy Vyvan
PENTECOST SUNDAY 23 May 2010. Just some advanced warning that on
Pentecost Sunday there will be prayer on the city walls in the

HELP NEEDED Volunteers needed We
love it when people offer to get involved in helping us run services
at St Michael's. Particularly we're short of volunteers to operate the
projection system at the 7pm service. It's a fairly important role, but
isn't complicated. If you're interested, please contact
