Since the advent of the modern era of St Michael le Belfrey, which began with the ministry of David Watson, this church has been a place where creativity and worship have gone hand in hand, and where many have found encouragement as they have sought to develop their gifts in music, dance, theatre and the graphic arts for the glory of God and the building up of His Church.
Musical worship has a special place in the church, as a vehicle for a corporate expression of love and adoration to God and as facilitation of an engagement with him, with each other and with the world. It is only one part of the living out of our faith, but we regard it as an important one; teaching, inspiring and encouraging us as we seek to be worshippers in all parts of our life.
When we come together to worship at St Michael's we seek to glorify God, both as his subjects and servants, and as his children with access to His throne for the most intimate of encounters. We also want to build each other up and to be a worshipping community in our city. This is reflected in the way that we worship together, in the structure and liturgy that we use, in the songs that we choose and in the way that we corporately seek the Holy Spirit's direction as He seeks to glorify Father and Son.
The music in our services ranges from a choir, though a chamber orchestra to contemporary bands and ambient dance music.
