Thought we might need a new topic to talk about,as I've exhausted the possibilities of vergers and their beautifully decorated walking sticks.

So what was your favouritist (I know that's very bad grammar but not as bad as Verja:-) service or most memorable, or  inpiring etc in St Mikes or thereabouts (inc St Cuthberts, G2, Greenbelt or anywhere else we've ever been invited to do one) ever and why?

PS. You're allowed to have more than one

Sue,

You asked for it!
Way back in the Spring of 19-frozen-to-death, I recall one evening service when a certain reader, who will remain nameless, but is now a retired GP, had his son bring a (real) lamb up to the old octagonal pulpit in St Michael's.  The lamb from then on took over by bleating more than the preacher was preaching.  The subject was something to do with "the lamb of God" and sins being wash whiter than snow.

It was , however, the first time I heard that particular reader preach - so it certainly left an impression.

I think my most memorable was my very first, when Jim Wallis came to speak. I've never seen St Mikes as full ever since. All the pews were full, the gallery was full, there were seats along all the aisles, and the space at the front was completely full as well. People were even sitting on the kneelers around the altar rail! The music was brilliant, and Jim Wallis was fantastic. (so saying I thought Elaine Storkey was pretty briliant too on Sunday)

I remember one at that water sports centre known as Greenbelt - think it was 1988 Shocked Shocked  - when I heard a talk on the feeding of the 5000 which explained what big things Jesus can do if you bring him something very small ............

One of my favourites was my first evening service at St. Mike's when I started Uni - I just knew that this was "my" church. I loved it!

Then the service on Jan 14th of this year God healed me. That was pretty memorable.

Also, Ian's talk on Batman, well....I'm pretty sure he wasn't preaching directly about Batman, but it was cool.

Then there was a 9 o clock service that I just adored.......

ARGH! I LOVE St Mike's!

Ah Greenbelt 88. Now Greenbelt 88 changed my life! It was the first time I ever came across alternative worship and my thoughts at the time were ...wow! That's amazing, but
a) I couldnt' make it my regular worship diet (haha!)
and
b) I could never do that myself in a million years. I wouldn't even know where to start (double hahah!)
