i hope that we get lots of alpha people to church and that they enjoy it and experience god just as so many people did last sunday.

That would be a fab idea as you get a v different angle coming to an actual service than you do a Christian youth group. Though its really important that we do it very subtley rather than just putting pressure on people to come cos that would just be off-putting.

I've generally avoided inviting people to church, largely because a) I'm about as subtle as a brick thrown at your head, and b) my church is more old-fashioned, thought not hugely, and the whole service is a more traditional format.

One thing I would say, though, is you can't always guarantee that people will prefer a more modern service. For instance, some people might prefer the heightened sense of ceremony (I know I do, though I've been raised in that environment), and the more old-fashioned music can often really speak to some people in a way that more music doesn't (again, I speak with the bias of someone who goes to a fairly high anglican church, so how much it's worth I don't know).
