Is that just because everyone's on holiday, or because everybody would rather use facebook to keep in touch.

Kinda leaves me wondering whether we need this forum here. I thought people might want somewhere to discuss St Michael's stuff, but maybe not. It's interesting that lots of people seem to be reading the posts here, just nobody's posting.

Anyway opinions, or lack of them, are very welcome  Smiley

Read 60 times and this is the first comment, I gather thats what you mean when you say quiet...

I think it is the holidays, I think I'm one of the few people I know that would happily sit in front of a computer on holiday.

I did wonder if that was a big part of it. There have been some interesting developments with the software used for the website and the forum... and crucially the bridge script that linked them together... Basically it no longer works.

So I need to give some thought to how to structure the site when the two parts of it can't share the same user credentials etc.

Hence why just how much traffic this forum gets is particularly interesting.

Strangely enough, earlier, I couldn't access the forum using the Opera  browser (v9.21) and ended up using NetScape 8.1 instead.  But now I am using Opera to make this post, coincidence or the PC going burp.

It should work fine with any standards compliant browser. But I'm not a CSS expert, and didn't write this template... So don't know.

I guess a lot of the topics we think are really important are very 'sensitive' [maybe 'intimate' is a better word] so our comments and ideas arent the type of thing you want to commit to a web page.

Also, a lot of people are a bit too javascript:void(0);
Roll Eyes  'nice' javascript:void(0);
Roll Eyes and wouldnt want to say anything controversial or provocative. I thought about starting a topic on Dr Who's delusions of divinity in series 3 but wasnt sure how it would go down and suddenly the series was over....... You certainly dont have the same problem on the tabloid or York Evening Press forums - I've got some real hammer when I have posted there! I work for a software house and our forum is supposed to be a medium for clients to quiz us and other clients on key topics, but it hasnt really taken off.

However, I am still surprised how little comment and banter there is. Maybe it refects our increasing fragmentation - how many people are interested in the St Michaels angle, alongside their Cell and Congregation these days?

I'm rambling now ..............................

Are people using the web site to check key pieces of information? Has it taken any load off the office staff? Maybe that needs some further explaining and regular publicity. Once the website is heavily used the forum may take off more. I'd advise you to leave it up if there is relatively little maintenance overhead and see whta happens. I would like to monitor how Gary spells 'verger', for one thing.

I think people will post if people post. Its one of those "i'll do it if you do it things".  I also think people are a bit shy of saying what they think, as it is a bit scary being faced with a blank page.

Sue, I'm incline to agree with that.  I used to be a Compuserve Forum moderator and it was hard work seeding posts (writing messages which one hoped might provide a handle for others to respond).  I don't believe Matt has found any volunteers to maintain the main website content yet - but I could be wrong now!
