Marriage and Family Leaders Dinner

Thursday 4 June 2009

Although there is much that gives us cause for concern for the state of society - there is much to give thanks for.   The common vision that led to the formation of Family Matters York.  The many organisations who like family matters offer support to couples, parents and young people including Care for the Family, Care, and the National Couple Support  Network - a joint initiative between Care for the Family and Holy Trinity Brompton - whose aim is to offer every engaged couple support as they prepare for their marriage.

Interestingly it is these same links that have led to the hosting of a dinner on the 4th June to encourage more churches to become involved in offering marriage and marriage preparation courses.   From small beginnings in 1996 - there are now over 850 churches and other organisations who offer the marriage course throughout the UK.

Yet there are far fewer Churches involved in Marriage courses than there are in Alpha.   One of the aims of the Dinner is to encourage more churches to be involved - so that there are as many churches and other organisations offering the marriage course as there are offering the alpha course.

Through the kind involvement of Family Matters York - Margaret Sentamu - has generously offered to be a guest speaker at the event.  Nicky and Sila Lee - the authors of the Marriage Book and the marriage course will also be speaking - not only to encourage more people to become involved in offering this very practical course - but also hopefully to briefly mention some new material that they have been producing for parents.

Having sent out invitations during marriage week, we hope to see many church leaders from across North and East Yorkshire coming to York on Thursday 4th June.

Our hope and aim is to create a memorable evening which will be will bring glory to Christ by encouraging more leaders to become further involved in marriage and family life - as they offer the opportunity for couples to experience the benefits that the marriage course offers.

If this is something that you would also like to see - then we would love you to be involved - may be

you could wow everyone as they arrive with an especially romantic setting; you could spoil everyone with a mouth watering meal; or you could drench the time of preparation and the evening in showers of prayer.    Let us know if you can help in any way - we would love to hear from you.
